At the end of the 19th Century and the beginning of the 20th, a wave of poor Jewish immigrants arrived in New York, to be greeted by the usual mix of intense hostility and enormous opportunity. Some of the children of those immigrants, including Al Jolson, Eddie Cantor, and Sid Caesar played major roles in reinventing American entertainment.
