About the event

As Assistant Costume Designer and Associate Costume Designer, it has been Mitchell Bloom's job to research the period of the show and present the Costume Designer with a portfolio of looks appropriate to the various characters. How does he do it? Illustrating his talk with hundreds of images and videos of plays, television shows, musicals, operas, films, ballets, and more, Bloom will talk about the research behind the costumes--and what happened after the research, including backstage stories involving performers, designers, and directors.


Mitchell Bloom has been the Assistant Designer of 27 Broadway shows, including Grand Hotel--The Musical, Lost in Yonkers, The Dance of Death, Fosse, The Will Rogers Follies, the Bernadette Peters Gypsy, the Lincoln Center Carousel, and the original production of Ragtime. Among the designers he's worked with are Santo Loquato, Ann Roth, Willa Kim, Bob Crowley, Anthony Powell, Ian MacNeil, Anthony Ward, Mark Thompson, Katrina Lindsay, and Suzy Benzinger. Others he's worked with include Tommy Tune, Neil Simon, Helen Mirren, Ian McKellen, Ann Reinking, Gwen Verdon, Maggie Smith, Julie Harris, Twyla Tharp, Paul Taylor, Woody Allen, and on and on. He has worked on more than 175 operas, as well as films, television shows, modern dance, and ballets. He is currently Assistant Staff Costume Designer at the Metropolitan Opera. He is also an award winning designer of dog costumes.


Mitchell Bloom's talk will be followed by a WINE AND CHEESE RECEPTION.

This is a joint event, in partnership with THE LAMBS, America's oldest professional theatrical club, and will take place in the NEW Lambs clubhouse on Broadway.
